4th of July

We spent the 4th of July with my family.  It was too short of a trip but we had a lot of fun! We did some fireworks in the front yard before we went to the stadium of fire show.  I'm pretty sure that the firework show that we put on was a big hit.

I love this picture of my sister and her baby.  These are Joshua's first fireworks and it is was hilarious how mesmerized he was.  I think he kept his mouth wide open the entire time.

This is my brother and my mom.  I don't think I have ever gotten a picture with my mom's eyes open in them.  I love these two.

These two are some close friends of ours, Jerry and Shelly.  They were like my second set of parents growing up.  (They would have had a daughter my age had she lived past birth.)  Jerry would take me to daddy daughter events when my own dad couldn't make it and we have been on a ton of trips with them.

These two are best friends.  We surprised Jayla's cousin Vanessa by showing up on her doorstep unannounced.  Vanessa let out a big gasp because she didn't know that we were coming.  It was really cute how excited she was to see Jayla. These two have a lot of fun together.

After our own little firework party we off to see the big ones.  The girls were very excited to see some more.  We waited and waited a long time for them to start...at least that is what it seemed like to the girls.  We got a few cute pictures of them while we were waiting.

As soon as they started Jessa's smile disappeared.  She was scared of them and crawled up on grandpa's lap to be protected. Jayla said that she was too tired to watch and just wanted to go home.  It was a bust.  Maybe we will hold out for when they get a little older.  Apparently it was just too much for them this year.

The next day we went boating with the family.  We had so much fun and I was excited to see the girls get into it.  It was the first time we have been boating where they both are old enough to get into the water.

I think their favorite part was just swimming in the water.

Michael and I got to demonstrate our mad wakeboarding skills.  The water was beautiful and it wasn't very cold either.  Here we are busting some moves.  Don't you love the beautiful mountains in the background?

I got my hair done right before going to the lake...it WAS cute before I dove into the lake.

'
Now this was fun.  We took both girls behind the boat on the "hot dog."  They had a lot of fun, but I think I had the most fun watching them.

Jayla kept wanting to go out again and again.  She went with her uncle Matt and grandpa..you can see by their faces that they had so much fun.  He is a good uncle to my girls.

Jayla and Jessa wanted to help grandpa put the boat away.  Jayla changed gears and Jessa took hold of the steering wheel.  Little Jessa's face lite up when grandpa let her sit on his lap while he backed the boat into the garage.  They both thought that they were so big.

After we got back grandpa took the girl out to do some gardening.  They both loved it and have been gardening in our back yard in their boots ever since.  It was fun to see Jessa eating a carrot straight from the garden because I have many memories of my dad digging up some carrots (my favorite) for me to eat with the green stem still attached.  And my Jessa loves carrots just like her mama.
